I think half the time we are doing this overwhelming lifestyle to block out thing in our life that we don't want to think about. Death,financial worries. problem marriage etc. We do not want to face up to these problems and by overcommitting ourselves there is very little time to take a look at ourselves and where we are at especially in our walk with Jesus.
